Shire Christian School to welcome new principal in January

Timothy Hewitt Principal

Shire Christian School has appointed Mr Timothy Hewitt as Principal of Shire Christian School, commencing January 2027.

He will take the reins from current Principal David Stonestreet who is retiring at the end of 2026, bringing to a close a 35-year career at the Sydney school.

The thorough recruitment process highlighted the exceptional quality of Christian education leaders serving across the sector. The calibre of candidates and the engaging conversations throughout the interview process were a strong endorsement of the outstanding reputation Shire Christian School has established as a highly sought-after community for educators, leaders and families alike.

The Board was unanimous in its decision and are looking forward to the school community getting to know Tim as he shares his passion and love for Christian education through his leadership of the school.

Tim is currently the Principal of Broughton Anglican College, a Christ-centred Prep to Year 12 school of approximately 1,500 students. He was previously the Deputy of Secondary at Covenant Christian School. His career has been dedicated to Christian education, serving across Christian Education National (CEN), Independent and Anglican Schools for over 20 years in teaching to Executive positions.

Tim is excited by the opportunity to build on the great legacy of 50 years of faithful Christian education at Shire Christian School. He brings with him an energy and vision to build on the firm foundation of biblical clarity, conviction, academic excellence, and furthering the school’s mission, in educating students for a life of learning, service and purpose, to the glory of God.

Board Chair Mr John Ishak said that he was thankful that Mr Hewitt could start at the beginning of the 2027 school year.

“With many new faces, names and places for him to get to know, I know you will warmly welcome Tim to our school community,” Mr Ishak said.

“We look forward as a community to this new start under a new Principal but with the same purpose and ‘everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth, (who) does not faint or grow weary, His understanding is unsearchable’ (Isaiah 40:28).”

“Our hope as always is in the Living Lord to direct our paths and prosper our endeavors, as is His will, for His Glory and our good.

“I pray that 2027 will be the start of another exciting season in the life of Shire Christian School,” Mr Ishak said.
