Compassion in action at Sophia Mundi Steiner School

Comfort Kits 2

Comfort Kits 1

At Sophia Mundi Steiner School, students are encouraged to engage meaningfully with the world around them. This year, one of our Year 11 students has done exactly that in a truly inspiring way.

Influenced by the school’s Justice Collective program, Audrey founded Comfort Kits, a community initiative providing essential hygiene products to unhoused young people in the Abbotsford area. Each kit is carefully assembled to offer not just practical care, but dignity and humanity to those who need it most.

Working in partnership with Frontyard Youth Services, a Melbourne organisation supporting young people experiencing homelessness, the project has grown steadily since its inception. Support has also been secured from companies including Sukin, AGL and Aussie Disposals, who contribute through product donations, quarterly drives and discounted supplies.

“Small acts of care and respect can create meaningful change,” says Audrey. “These kits aren’t just toiletries. They are a way of giving dignity to people in our community.”

What makes Comfort Kits particularly special is that it is entirely youth driven. Born out of a personal desire to do more, the initiative reflects the kind of compassionate, socially conscious thinking that Sophia Mundi nurtures in its students across all year levels.

The school community has come together to support the project. A donations jar and goods collection box are now set up in the school’s reception area, and families, staff and students are invited to contribute. For those outside the school community, donations of hygiene products or financial contributions can be directed to comfortkitsbringcare@gmail.com.

Comfort Kits is a beautiful example of what can happen when young people are given the space, support and encouragement to turn their values into action.
