MACKAY NORTHERN BEACHES STATE HIGH SCHOOL

Mackay Northern Beaches State High School is the newest school in the Central Queensland Region and is located in the rapidly expanding Northern Beaches community, 10 km north of the Mackay City centre.

Mackay Northern Beaches State High School commenced its provision of quality, world class education for students in January 2013 with enrolments in both Year 7 and 8. In 2015, the Senior School commenced with the introduction of Year 10.

Students study the Australian Curriculum, which focuses on a greater depth of knowledge as they progress through high school. The school has an unrelenting focus on quality outcomes for our students who are taught by supportive and highly-skilled specialist teachers in modern facilities, optimising participation and potential outcomes both academically and socially for their lives beyond school.

Facilities: Science laboratories, Industrial Technology rooms including plastics and robotics, food studies kitchen and general teaching rooms, Resource Centre (library), Lecture Theatre and Sports Hall (Cyclone Shelter), university-standard biology lab and robotics lab, Art and Media block, Music and Dance block as well as a Drama room, second staff centre, ICT rooms and general teaching rooms.

Subjects/Electives Years 7 to 10: Core subjects – English, English Extension, Mathematics, Maths Extension, Science, History, Health & Physical Education. Elective subjects – Art, Dance, Drama, Media, Music, Japanese, MasterClass, Geography, Business, Law, Computing, Food Studies, Design & Manufacturing, and Robotics.

Subjects/Electives Years 11 and 12: Compulsory subjects – English or English Extension, Math or Math Extension, Science or Science Extension, HPE or HPE Extension, and History. Elective subjects – Business Studies, Geography, Introduction to Legal Studies, Japanese, Graphics, Introduction to Construction, Introduction to Engineering, Introduction to Hospitality, Introduction to IPT, Practical Computing, Robotics, Art, Dance, Drama, Media, and Music.

Welfare and personal development: Support teacher: literacy and numeracy (STLaN) – works with classroom teachers and other members of the school community to improve student achievement with a focus on literacy and numeracy.
