The best education leaves a positive impact on students’ lives long after they leave. At Ballarat Grammar, that conviction runs through everything, from the classroom to the stage, the sporting field to the boarding house, building young people who are ready for life in its fullest sense.
The answer lies not in any single program or philosophy, but in the accumulation of experiences: academic, creative, practical and personal, that together shape a student who is ready for the world.
That spirit of purposeful, hands-on learning is perhaps best captured by The Academy – Sound and Performance. Students record original music, collaborate with industry professionals, and can progress through to a post-Year 12 Internship, working on major creative projects of their own design while studying a school-funded Certificate IV in Music Industry. Graduates have gone on to institutions like RMIT and JMC Academy, while others have stepped straight into the world of theatre, performance and community arts.
Across the outdoor education program, which runs from Prep through to Year 12, students build resilience and self-awareness in ways that complement and enrich their academic growth. This commitment will deepen further with the Mafeking property, a new chapter in the School’s outdoor education offering set in the Grampians region. The extended residential program will place students in a working environment where they cook meals, manage solar power, grow food and plan outdoor expeditions. Practical skills in bushcraft, navigation and land management will sit alongside a genuine focus on environmental stewardship, and on First Nations perspectives connecting students to the Gariwerd landscape and its ancient rock art.
Ballarat Grammar offers boarding for students in Years 7 through 12, with a specialist focus on junior boarding for those entering secondary school, an experience designed to build independence, friendship and a genuine sense of place. It is a particularly valuable pathway for students from regional and rural families who wish to access the full breadth of what the School has to offer.
At its heart, a Ballarat Grammar education balances academic rigour with holistic development, equipping students not just to achieve, but to think, contribute and lead. The result is a student who is intellectually engaged, personally grounded, and genuinely prepared for whatever comes next.
