As part of our international enrichment program, a group of Suzanne Cory High School students recently travelled to China to gain first-hand insight into the country’s rapid development and rich cultural heritage.
The Shanghai Foreign Language School (SFLS) warmly hosted students and staff, following their own visit to Suzanne Cory earlier in the year. Together, students from both schools participated in a range of cultural and educational activities, including a full day of shared student life in Shanghai. Visits to key sites such as Yuyuan Garden, Shanghai Tower, and the Huangpu River, along with several museum experiences, providing valuable perspectives on China’s historical development and modern innovation. The collaboration fostered strong friendships and strengthened the close bond between both schools.
A trip highlight was the high-speed train journey from Shanghai to Nanjing, reaching speeds of up to 350 km/h. In Nanjing, students explored museums and memorials that showcased the city’s significant role in Chinese history. Concluding the trip in Hangzhou, students discovered the traditional art of tea-making, from harvesting leaves on a plantation to refining them by hand.
This overseas learning experience provided students with a unique opportunity to broaden their global perspectives, enhance intercultural understanding, and expand their Chinese language skills through authentic, real-world interactions. Suzanne Cory High School looks forward to continuing its strong relationship with SFLS through future visits and shared learning experiences.
