HOME HILL STATE HIGH SCHOOL

Home Hill State High School is located in the Burdekin region, approximately an hour south of Townsville. The area is predominantly a sugar growing area, renowned for producing cane with the highest sugar content in Australia.

Home Hill is a delightful town, with much history and tradition, and some of the best fishing around. The school has approximately 280 students, and boasts an extensive curriculum with a record of strong academic achievement.

The school promotes “Learning, Performance and Citizenship” as the key elements for success of our school. For more than 50 years, students have demonstrated their commitment to these elements, and developed the proud reputation held by the school.

Subjects/Electives Years 7 to 10: Business – Economics & Business, Civics & Citizenship, Drama, English, Geography, Graphics, Health and Physical Education, History, Home Economics, Home Economics Foods – Introduction to Hospitality, Industrial Technology and Design, Japanese, Mathematics, Science, Visual Art, Vocational Education – Business Environment (Year 10 Only), and Instrumental Music.

Subjects/Electives Years 11 and 12: The school provides a range of senior subjects, providing pathways to academic, vocational and direct employment futures. In senior years, students can also complete school-based apprenticeships or traineeships while studying at school. Such subjects include Maths A, B and C, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, English, Visual Art, Legal Studies, Accounting, Industrial Technology, Graphics, Science in Practice, HPE and Recreational Studies, Prevocational Mathematics, English for Communication.

Extracurricular activities: Instrumental Music Program, a large variety of sports including Interhouse and Interschool carnivals, competitions in Science, Chemistry, English, Accounting and Mathematics, interschool Drama Festival, Public Speaking (Lions Youth of the Year, Rostrum, Toastmasters), Science Activities (Science and Engineering Challenge, Spark Engineering Camp, Engineering Link – Year 11, Astronomy/Solar viewings), Camps (JCU Residential Camp – Year 10, JCU Experience – Year 12, Stanton Lodge (Learning Enhancement), Year Nine adventure Camp, Year 12 Physical Education, Civics and Citizenship Camp), Indigenous Activities.
