Wahroonga Preparatory School Turns 100

Wahroonga Preparatory School

On Tuesday 17 March 2026, the Wahroonga Preparatory School (WPS) community came together in joyous celebration to mark a remarkable milestone – one hundred years of education.

The commemorative morning began with a beautiful Chapel Service held at St John’s Uniting Church. Students, staff, families and friends gathered in a spirit of gratitude and reflection to honour a century of learning and growth. The service was filled with heartfelt worship, prayer, meaningful addresses, uplifting hymns, and moving musical performances by both students and staff, setting a deeply reflective and celebratory tone for the day.

The celebrations continued with a delightful morning tea for Wahroonga Prep families, where the sense of community and shared history was unmistakable. Parents, grandparents and relatives enjoyed the opportunity to reconnect and reflect, before exploring the school’s rich heritage in the specially curated Centenary Museum, thoughtfully created by staff.

“A centenary is far more than a marker of time,” said Mrs Julie Wiseman, Head of Wahroonga Preparatory School. “It is a testament to vision, courage, perseverance and the enduring power of community. We honour the past, celebrate the present, and look forward with both optimism and conviction to the future.”

To commemorate the school’s 100-year journey, the team designed a striking pop-up museum that brought history to life through a collection of treasured artefacts, archival photography, and contemporary student creations. Each year group contributed a unique artistic reflection, showcasing both creativity and connection to the school’s values and heritage.

Pre-Kindergarten students created a vibrant stained-glass window artwork inspired by the chapel’s iconic designs. Kindergarten students collaborated on a mixed-media piece depicting the school’s main building, while Year 2 students explored the school values – Faith, Wisdom, Integrity, Compassion and Courage – through the creation of a laser-cut school crest.

Year 3 students worked together to produce a beautifully handcrafted crochet blanket, symbolising warmth and unity. Year 4 students expressed their understanding of the school values through individually designed and painted tiles, forming a collective artwork rich in meaning. Meanwhile, Year 6 students shared personal reflections, capturing significant moments and experiences that have shaped their journeys so far.

Years 5 and 6 students also completed a Faith and Centenary project, in which they interviewed 100 former WPS students, staff, and parents. The students explored how Christian faith played an important role in their lives during their time at the school and beyond. They also reflected on how faith continues to shape their present experiences and influence their future lives.

Later in the day, the festivities continued with an Open Classroom session, offering families a valuable opportunity to engage directly with their children’s learning. Students proudly shared their work and experiences, giving parents and carers a meaningful glimpse into everyday life at Wahroonga Prep.

The centenary celebrations not only honoured the school’s distinguished past but also highlighted the vibrant and connected community that continues to shape its future.
