ST MARY’S COLLEGE

Principal's Message
Brilliance Begins with Belonging. In nearly 20 years as a principal in Catholic co-educational schools, I’ve come to know what makes a school truly special, and I’m proud to say St Mary’s College has it. Here, every student is known. Our teachers notice the quiet student with a gift for music, the one who lights up on the basketball court, and the one who needs extra encouragement to believe in themselves. Each young person brings something unique, and our role is to help them discover it, grow it and share it with others. Guided by the Edmund Rice tradition, we place compassion, justice, inclusion and service at the heart of daily life, shaping how students treat one another, embrace diversity and give back to the community. In the classroom, our RAISE Learning Model helps students take ownership of their learning. We set high expectations and walk alongside each student as they build the knowledge, confidence and capabilities to pursue their personal best. Beyond the classroom, there is a pathway for every passion, from our basketball, football and triathlon academies to music, the arts, leadership and service. It’s a joy to watch students try something new and surprise themselves. Our East St Kilda home, with specialist learning spaces, a swimming pool and access to Alma Park, gives them every opportunity to do so. Our motto says it simply: brilliance begins with belonging. Brilliance isn’t only about being top of the class. It’s the light already within every young person, and it shines brightest when students feel safe, connected and genuinely cared for. It’s what we hope for every student who joins our community. I warmly invite you to book a College tour and experience St Mary’s for yourself. Darren Atkinson, College Principal
