Empowering Brilliance

This year, St Aloysius College in North Melbourne proudly welcomed its second co-educational Year 7 cohort. The transition of the College from an all-girls College to a co-educational format began in 2023.

With a 137-year history rooted in the Catholic tradition of the Sisters of Mercy, St Aloysius College exemplifies the profound benefits of a values-based education. Guided by the Mercy Education values of compassion, justice, hospitality, service, respect, and courage, students are prepared for academic success and empowered to navigate the complexities of the modern world with a holistic approach to mind, body, and spirit.

Central to the College’s educational vision is a dedication to individual wellbeing. Recognising the uniqueness of each student, St Aloysius College prioritises their wellbeing and lays the groundwork for academic and personal brilliance.

St Aloysius College offers a diverse and robust curriculum that caters to the varied interests and academic goals of its students. From Year 7 all the way through to Year 12, students can choose from a wide selection of subjects, including English, Mathematics, Sciences, Humanities, Arts, and Languages such as French, Italian, and Japanese. This extensive range ensures that students can tailor their education to their strengths and passions, fostering a deep and meaningful learning experience.

The curriculum is designed to challenge and inspire students, encouraging them to think critically, solve problems, and develop a lifelong love of learning. The Universal Learning Program (ULP) and a diverse range of co-curricular activities in STEAM, sport, languages, and the Arts provide additional opportunities for students to explore their interests and develop essential skills. This holistic approach to education nurtures critical thinking and intellectual curiosity, and respects the diverse learning preferences of all students.

Academic Excellence and Student Achievement

St Aloysius College has a proud tradition of academic excellence, consistently achieving outstanding VCE results. The school’s rigorous academic program is designed to support each learner as an individual, ensuring they are challenged, their areas of interest are celebrated, and that they are nurtured to identify and achieve their own personal brilliance.

The impressive VCE results are a testament to the hard work and dedication of both students and teachers. Graduates of St Aloysius College are well-prepared for life beyond school, with students exploring myriad pathways, from tertiary education to industry placement. The College’s future focus ensures that students are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to succeed in an ever-changing world.

Leadership Opportunities

At the senior years, St Aloysius College students are offered numerous leadership opportunities designed to nurture and develop their leadership skills. Positions such as House Leader, Class Captain, College Co-Captains and Prefect allow students to take on significant responsibilities and contribute to the College community.

Students in these leadership roles are actively involved in school events, decision-making processes, and peer support activities. They learn to lead by example, inspire their peers, and make meaningful contributions to the College community. These experiences not only prepare students for future responsibilities, but also instil in them a lifelong commitment to service and excellence.

Student Futures

The comprehensive Careers program at St Aloysius College is designed to support students in making informed decisions about their future pathways. From personalised career counselling to detailed guidance on university applications and career options, the program offers extensive support to help students navigate their post-secondary choices.

The Careers and Pathways Advisor works closely with students to explore their interests and aspirations, providing them with the tools and information needed to make well-informed decisions. Weekly newsletters, career fairs, and workshops are just some of the resources available to students. The Carrers program ensures that students are well-prepared to embark on their chosen careers, equipped with the knowledge and skills to succeed in a competitive job market.

An individualised approach

At the senior years, small class sizes at St Aloysius College enhance the learning experience by allowing for a focus on the unique needs of each learner. This approach enables teachers to provide individualised support and guidance, helping each student reach their full potential. The close-knit learning environment fosters strong relationships between students and teachers, creating a supportive community that values each student’s success.

An International Approach

St Aloysius College values global education and offers students the chance to participate in international travel programs to Italy and Japan. These experiences provide unique cultural insights and a broader perspective on the world, enhancing the educational journey and fostering a deeper understanding of global cultures and histories.

Travelling abroad allows students to immerse themselves in different cultures, learn new languages, and gain a global perspective. These experiences are invaluable in today’s interconnected world, helping students develop cultural awareness, adaptability, and a greater appreciation for diversity. The international travel programs at St Aloysius are more than just educational trips; they are transformative experiences that broaden students’ horizons and enrich their personal and academic growth.

Become part of the legacy

As St Aloysius College transitions to co-education, the current senior students have the unique opportunity to be part of the final all-girls cohorts. This experience allows them to build strong bonds and excel in a supportive, focused environment, carrying forward the legacy of all-girls education and making their time at the College particularly special.

This legacy of empowerment and academic excellence continues to shape the experience of the current senior students, preparing them to become confident, compassionate, and capable leaders in their future endeavours.

The VCE Years at St Aloysius College offer an extraordinary opportunity for students to engage in a rich educational experience, develop leadership skills, and prepare for their future with confidence.
