At Carey Baptist Grammar School we recently celebrated several student achievements made both in the classroom and on the sporting field.
Towards the end of Term 1 the Middle School welcomed back Chloe, Ilka, Cassie and Amelia, now in Year 10, to recognise their sustained excellence in learning by awarding them Middle School Triannual Academic Excellence Awards. This rare accomplishment is only given to students who achieved Middle School Academic Awards in Years 7, 8 and 9, as their results in all summative assessments across the year placed them in the top 5% of their cohort. Attaining this award is a meritorious accomplishment in itself; to do so for three consecutive years is exceptional.
The Middle School also celebrated students who showed growth in their learning, in line with our emphasis on that Carey value, through Academic Credits launched in 2025. Teachers might nominate students who, for example, proactively form a study group with peers or have a breakthrough solving a particularly challenging problem. Further, Academic Credits recognise academic excellence in Term 3 for students whose summative assessments are noteworthy in Terms 1 and 2.
Turning to the sporting field, Jess in Year 10 claimed victory in the annual APS/AGSV/BAS Golf Tournament, producing an outstanding round and finishing two under the card to win the individual title by three shots, defeating all boys and girls in the field. We congratulate Jess on this exceptional achievement, as well as Max (Year 11), Hugo (Year 11) and Sam (Year 8), who also represented Carey superbly on the day.
Carey had two teams qualify for the finals in the State 3v3 Basketball Competition. Both teams enjoyed remarkable success winning their semi-finals, resulting in an all-Carey Grand Final. The Carey Blue team emerged victorious by two points in a close battle, earning the title of Division 2 State Champions.
There were countless highlights across the first round of the APS Winter Sport season too, setting the tone for what promises to be an exciting and competitive season ahead. Boys Basketball produced a superb win which was a particularly pleasing result as the players haven’t played much together before. Both Hockey Teams recorded convincing wins and both Football Teams delivered dominant performances to secure strong opening victories. Netball played outstanding team-based netball to run away with a convincing win and Girls Soccer delivered a dominant display at the Home of the Matildas with an emphatic performance.
This tremendous start to the Winter season is a testament to all students, coaches and staff involved. We look forward to seeing how future rounds play out and wish students all the best for their studies in the term ahead too.
