After graduating Year 12, Canberra Girls Grammar School (CGGS) Alumni Grace (Class of 2025) walked through the School’s historic gates for the last time feeling confident and prepared.
As a boarder at CGGS and recipient of the Principal’s Award, the highest award given to a single student at their Graduation, Grace says her experience provided every opportunity for her to flourish upon completing her studies.
“Boarding at CGGS has been such a wonderful experience,” she says.
“I have made lifelong friends, learned to be independent and become part of a supportive and kind community.”
With a proud boarding tradition dating back 100 years, the CGGS ‘BoHo’ is Canberra’s only exclusively female Boarding House, and was the first Boarding House in the ACT. Within its historic walls, generations of women have learnt and led, navigated change and challenges to emerge empowered and independent.
Pivotal to the School’s 100-year legacy of educational excellence, connection and opportunity is its renowned Scholarship and Bursary Program, which is currently open for applications.
Prospective boarders have access to the Program, which has two streams: the Scholarship stream, recognising student dedication and excellence and the Bursary stream, which aims to provide a world-class education to those for whom it may otherwise not be possible. The Bursary stream is open year-round to boarding students living in remote, regional and rural communities.
CGGS Principal Terrie Jones says the Scholarship and Bursary Program further strengthens the CGGS boarding experience.
“Our boarders come from all corners of the globe, so naturally, diversity is celebrated. Respect and harmony are championed and each individual is known and valued,” says Terrie. “Our Boarders wake up to a community that feels connected. It’s a female-focused home where kindness and compassion shape every interaction, and one in which everyone belongs.”
Located centrally in Canberra’s picturesque inner south, the Boarding House is within minutes of Australia’s national institutions, high-performance sport facilities, Embassies and Parliament House.
Boarders make the most of every day amongst 10 hectares of beautifully manicured gardens and outdoor grounds, with access to state-of-the-art facilities. Beyond a world-class educational setting, Boarders have access to the School’s extensive co-curricular program, Cygnus at CGGS, designed for a broad, holistic experience with over 100 options on offer.
For graduating boarder Marianna (Class of 2025), Cygnus at CGGS helped her find a sense of purpose.
“Music and Drama allowed me to explore my creativity and develop strong technique. I was able to connect with my friends, and the co-curricular instructors were enthusiastic, creating an environment which was welcoming and enjoyable.”
