TUMBY BAY AREA SCHOOL

Tumby Bay Area School is an R-12 school comprising 140 mostly culturally homogenous families, half of whom live in the township and half in surrounding agricultural areas. Key influences on the school include the limited job opportunities, isolation, and the community focus of the school. Core business is teaching and learning in a supportive caring environment. This involves: the balanced delivery of the Australian curriculum in the eight required areas of study R-10, the provision of a SACE programme that provides a range of options including VET courses and School Based Apprenticeships, maximising the face-to-face delivery choices at Senior Secondary. They also manage a program of Out of School Hours Care. Our Core Business is supported by well established Early Intervention programmes to provide one-to-one help for identified students, a strong Camps and Excursion program, parental involvement in a range of ways, active encouragement of student participation, ongoing Professional Development in teaching and learning for staff, increasingly diverse use of Information Technology and post-school options counselling.
