THOMAS CARR COLLEGE

Thomas Carr College is a Catholic co-educational secondary college in the Archdiocese of Melbourne, located in Tarneit within the thriving and diverse City of Wyndham. Serving the communities of St Peter Apostle Parish (Hoppers Crossing) and St James the Apostle Parish (Hoppers Crossing North), the College welcomes students and families of all faiths and backgrounds into a learning community built on a simple but powerful belief: when young people are believed in, they will shine. Named after Archbishop Thomas Joseph Carr, the second Catholic Archbishop of Melbourne, the College exists to nurture students academically, spiritually and personally. Guided by faith and grounded in compassion, purpose and connection, Thomas Carr College develops young people of integrity who are equipped to embrace opportunity, contribute positively to their communities and shine their light into the world. Facilities

Thomas Carr College’s learning environments have been thoughtfully designed to support contemporary teaching, collaborative learning and student wellbeing. Set across expansive and beautifully maintained grounds, the College provides modern facilities that inspire curiosity, creativity and connection.

The College features contemporary classrooms, science laboratories, technology and design spaces, specialist arts facilities, an Information Resource Centre and extensive indoor and outdoor sporting facilities. These spaces reflect the College’s commitment to providing purposeful learning experiences that help every student discover and develop their unique strengths.

Specialist facilities include:

• The Bruce Runnalls Middle Years Centre, an innovative and flexible learning hub that encourages collaboration, independence and authentic engagement in learning.
• The Dr Sr Mary Glowrey Centre, a contemporary two-storey facility designed for Years 10–12 students, featuring breakout spaces and specialised STEAM learning environments.
• The Ngangga Centre, a dedicated Year 12 study and collaboration space. Named from the Boonwurrung language meaning “to listen, to hear, to understand”, the centre reflects the College’s commitment to listening deeply, fostering understanding and building meaningful connections.
• A contemporary senior learning precinct and expanded STEAM facilities that support future-focused learning and multiple learning pathways.
  

Each space has been carefully created to ensure students feel a strong sense of belonging, recognising that connection and engagement are essential foundations for learning and personal growth.

Curriculum

At Thomas Carr College, learning is about more than academic achievement. The curriculum is designed to develop confident, capable and compassionate young people who understand both their potential and their responsibility to others.

Students engage in a broad curriculum from Years 7 to 12 that includes Religious Education, English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Languages and Health and Physical Education, alongside a diverse range of electives in the Arts, Technology, Digital.

The College believes that every student learns differently and therefore offers flexible and personalised pathways that enable students to pursue their interests and aspirations. Senior students can choose from:

• Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)
• VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM)
• Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC)
• Vocational Education and Training (VET) programs
• Accelerated learning opportunities in selected subject areas.

Throughout all year levels, Religious Education remains central to the curriculum, encouraging students to explore questions of faith, meaning, ethics and social responsibility. Sport

Sport is an important expression of community life at Thomas Carr College. Participation in physical activity promotes teamwork, resilience, leadership and personal growth, while providing opportunities for students to connect with one another and build lasting friendships.

Students participate in a wide variety of individual and team sports through inter-school competition, house events and College carnivals. The annual swimming, athletics and cross-country carnivals bring the community together and foster a strong sense of belonging, pride and healthy competition. Extensive sporting facilities support students to participate, challenge themselves and develop confidence both on and off the field.

Co-curricular activities

Thomas Carr College believes that some of life’s most valuable lessons occur beyond the classroom. Students are encouraged to participate in a broad range of co-curricular opportunities that nurture creativity, leadership, service and connection. Programs include instrumental music, ensembles, choir, drama productions, debating, public speaking, student leadership initiatives, social justice activities and community service programs. Through these experiences, students are empowered to discover their passions, develop confidence and learn how their individual gifts can contribute to the common good.
