The Athena School is an independent, non-denominational, co-educational school providing education from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 10. The school is registered with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), is a member of the Association of Independent Schools NSW (AISNSW), and is located in the leafy surrounds of Newtown.
Our goal is simple:
“Happy, successful students with the educational tools to competently pursue their goals in life.”
At The Athena School, we encourage students to observe, think independently and take responsibility for their own learning. Students are supported to progress at their own pace, while being given realistic, enjoyable challenges and meaningful goals that encourage them to continually develop their skills and confidence.
We place a strong emphasis on the foundations of education — reading, writing and mathematics — and, importantly, on understanding how these skills can be applied in everyday life. We believe learning should be an enjoyable, lifelong process that gives students the confidence and ability to continue learning throughout their lives.
Individualised Learning
The Athena School uses specially developed educational tools and resources to provide students with highly effective, personalised learning programs. Our approach recognises that every student is an individual, with their own abilities, interests, goals and rate of learning.
Small class sizes allow teachers to provide individual attention and closely support each student’s progress. Our teachers are accredited by NESA and are also trained in The Athena School’s internationally successful teaching method and study philosophy.
A Supportive School Community
A strong sense of community exists among our students, parents and staff. This creates a welcoming, friendly and supportive environment where students feel known, valued and encouraged to achieve their potential.
The Athena School is also a registered CRICOS provider (Provider No. 02266B), welcoming students from overseas. Our individualised approach can be particularly valuable for students developing their English literacy skills, with international students often making significant progress in a relatively short period of time.
Preparing Students for Their Future
For students in the high school years, individual programs are developed to align curriculum outcomes with each student’s abilities, interests and personal goals. These programs are designed to support students in developing the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to pursue their chosen pathways beyond school.
Programs are regularly reviewed and adjusted to ensure students continue to receive the support and challenges they need to make meaningful progress.
At The Athena School, we aim to give every student more than an education. We strive to provide them with the knowledge, skills, confidence and independence to become successful lifelong learners and pursue their goals in life.
