Subjects/Electives Years 7 to 10: English, Mathematics, Science and Social Science, Japanese or German, Arts (music, drama, dance, visual art), Technology (ICT, Manual Arts, Home Economics, Business), Wellbeing, Engagement, Leadership program).

Subjects/Electives Years 11 and 12: In the senior school, students have a choice of 27 Authority (OP University) subjects and 21 Authority Registered (non-OP vocational) subjects. Students are required to choose 6 subjects, unless they undertake a school based apprenticeship or traineeship (SAT), where they may drop 1 subject to enable them to complete work placement one day per week.

Sport: Students have the opportunity to engage in a range of different sports in two seasons during the school year. They play against schools in the Central District region, and can advance into Metropolitan finals in specific sports.

Extracurricular activities: Sandgate District State High School strongly supports students expanding horizons through camps and curriculum excursions. Camps offer the learning experience in a nurturing environment away from everyday school learning spaces and provide students the opportunities to move out of their comfort zone.
