The curriculum offers a range of opportunities for students to develop skills and understandings that will equip them to make a successful transition from school to a rapidly changing adult society. Teachers structure curriculum activities to encourage student participation, conversation and leadership. At Ormeau Woods State High School teaching and learning is personalised, intellectually challenging and connected to the ‘Real World’.

The school currently offers several specialised programs including the Honours Club for highly performing students and the Gifted and Talented program. It also offers specialised subjects such as iDance and Sports Science. iDance will give talented local performers a chance to take their skills to an elite level and help them work towards a career in the performing arts. Sports Science can lead students to start a Griffith University Exercise Science Degree Program whilst completing Year 11.

Facilities: Modern science laboratories, research and resource centre, industrial workshops, kitchen, design and graphics studio, multimedia studio, business and computer rooms, general learning areas, industry standard kitchens, engineering workshop, construction workshop, interactive computer technology centre, creative industries studios, multi-purpose centre and science laboratories, performing arts centre, music block and a two-storey senior general learning area.

Extracurricular activities: Music Programs, Glee Club, Ormeau’s Got Talent, student participation and extension in Drama activities, Theatre Sports competitions, Art Club.

Welfare and personal development: The Student Support Services (SSS) Department supports students with individualised programs in special education and learning support.

Special features: The school is a member of the prestigious Griffith University Valued Partners Program and has access to programs offered by a number of other reputable institutions. A feature of the school is the resource and research centre which is gaining widespread recognition in education circles for its ‘soft furnishings, high technology’ approach to library usage.
