MOUNTAIN CREEK STATE HIGH SCHOOL

Mountain Creek State High School has an excellent reputation for outstanding achievements in academic, cultural, leadership, community and sporting programs. The school recognises students require not only a meaningful and relevant curriculum but also a cleverly designed school structure that better integrates the key elements of good pedagogical practice with a pastoral care framework that best supports young people in a rapidly changing world. Pastoral care and parent engagement is fostered through a sub-school system providing close monitoring of students in both academic achievement and behaviour management, and a safe secure and supportive environment for all students.

Facilities: Two full soccer fields, one 400m running track and two 100m running tracks, two long jump pits, throw areas for discus and shot put, one all-weather cricket pitch, two netball courts, five volleyball courts and one basketball half court. six privately-owned tennis courts adjacent to the school, two council leased cricket ovals, 25m swimming pool, fully-equipped gymnasium and two dance studios, performing arts centre including tiered seating for approximately 240, wooden stage and the provision of sound and lighting.

Subjects/Electives Years 11 and 12: The selection of one English and one Maths subject is mandatory at the school. The remaining subjects should be selected from the relevant strand, according to the student’s career choices or prerequisites for tertiary entry.

Sport: Netball, Volleyball, Basketball, AFL and Rugby League.

Extracurricular activities: Mountain Creek State High School prides itself on an extensive extra-curricular program.

Welfare and personal development: Guidance Officers, Chaplains, school-based Youth Health Nurse, Vocational Education Officer.

Special features: Zenith, Young Scholars and Young Achievers’ programs in the middle school, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) in the senior school, a Creative Industries Academy in the Middle School and a wide variety of sporting development programs including Volleyball, Basketball, Rugby League and AFL. The school teaches two languages Japanese and Spanish in both the QSA curriculum and the IBDP however other languages are supported through the School of Distance Education.
