MILES STATE HIGH SCHOOL

Miles State High School is a co-educational secondary school located in South West Queensland, a leisurely four hour drive west of Brisbane, catering for students from Years 8 to 12. Miles High enjoys a well-deserved reputation of academic excellence, a tradition which has spanned many years.

Subjects/Electives Years 8 to 10: In Years 8, 9 and 10 students participate in a program of study based around the 8 KLAs (English, Mathematics, SOSE, Science, The Arts, LOTE, Technology and Health and Physical Education). All students in Years 8, 9 and 10 study English, Mathematics, Science, History and Physical Education. Students in Year 8 also study Art, Textiles and Food Studies and Industrial Technology & Design. Students in Years 9 and 10 elect to study two of Art, Textiles and Food Studies, Industrial Technology & Design or Agricultural Studies.

Subjects/Electives Years 11 and 12: Authority Subjects – Accounting, Biology, Business Communication & Technology, Chemistry, English, Geography, Graphics, Home Economics, Maths A/B, Physical Education, Visual Art. Authority Registered Subjects – Agriculture & Horticulture Studies, English Communication, Engineering, Furnishing, Prevocational Mathematics, Recreation Studies, Visual Art Studies.

Virtual School (VSS) and School of Distance Education (SDE) subjects include Mathematics C, Modern History, Legal Studies, Physics, Information Processing and Technology.

Sport: Swimming, Cross Country, Athletics, Basketball, Netball, Softball, Volleyball, Touch Football and Rugby League.

Extracurricular activities: Origin CARS program, subject competitions, instrumental music, Arts council, Tours, camps and excursions including Year 8 Camp, Year 11 Leadership Camp, Year 12 Brisbane Careers Excursion, Year 11/12 Biology Field Trip, Year 11/12 Geography Excursion, School Representative Council, Social committee, Environment committee, Sport committee, Cultural committee, Publications committee.
