Maryborough State High School has exemplified excellence in education since 1881. Subjects/Electives Years 7 to 10: Core subjectsMaths, English, Science, History, Health and Physical Education (HPE), Languages Other Than English (LOTE). Elective subjects – Introduction to Home Economics, Introduction to Workshop Practices, Business and Enterprise, Music, Visual Arts, Drama, Dance.

Classes in Year 10 offer students an advanced program in English, Maths, and Science, as well as an opportunity to participate in problem solving activities, national and global competitions, and robotics. The curriculum is based on higher order thinking and inquiry-based learning.

Subjects/Electives Years 11 and 12: English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Business, Health and Physical Education, The Arts, Industrial Technology, Marine studies program, Aerospace program, The manufacturing pre-trade program.

Vocational training may begin as early as Year 10, with opportunities for students to engage in school based apprenticeships and traineeships.

Maryborough State High, as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), delivers certificate qualifications across a number of curriculum areas including Certificate II in Business Services, Certificate III in Children’s Services, Certificate II in Hairdressing, Certificate II in Hospitality, Certificate I & II in Information, Digital Media and Technology (IDMT), Certificate II in Retail Make-Up and Skin Care, Certificate II in Music, Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation, Certificate I & II in Visual Arts, Manufacturing Pre-Trade, Certificate I & II in Boating Services (Boat Building), Certificate I & II in Engineering, Certificate I & II in Furniture Making.

Sport: Rugby League, Rugby Union, Australian Rules Football, Netball, Hockey, Futsal and the Human Powered Vehicle 24hr Race.

Extracurricular activities: Choir, opportunities to compete at district, state, and national levels of sport, participation in interschool sporting teams, Robotics club, The Duke of Edinburgh Program, Toastmasters, Junior council, Breakfast club, Drumbeat, chess club, Interact club, training for the Human Powered Vehicle (HPV) teams, school musical, the annual Music, Arts, Drama, and Dance (MADD) concert, excursions to places of education significance, guest speakers, assessment support centre, homework club.

Welfare and personal development: Guidance Officers (career counselling and personal guidance), school-based Youth Health Nurse, School Chaplain, Youth Support Coordinator, Learning Support Staff, Special Education Support Staff, Indigenous Community Counsellor.

Special features: Local business and industry partnerships provide opportunities for students to engage in school-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships. ‘Learning Enhancement Centre’ staffed by five specialist teachers, nine teacher aides, and an administrative officer.
