Malanda State High School offers a quality standard of education from Years 7 to 12. The school’s purpose is to ensure all students achieve high levels of literacy and numeracy proficiency in Junior Secondary (Years 7 to 9), so they can successfully engage with a career pathway of their choice in Senior Secondary and beyond.

The school strives to effectively engage with every individual student so they can reach their potential in life in a safe and highly supportive environment. The way students wear their uniform, as well as speak to others, and behave inside and outside of the school are important to the school, however beyond these concepts, the school strongly commits to ensuring it actively prepares each and every student for a lifetime beyond school, where they are capable of enjoying the benefits of society as a consequence of being actively and happily employed.

Facilities: Recently re-furbished science laboratories fitted with interactive whiteboards, 4 air conditioned computer rooms complemented by a 1-to-1 laptop program for all senior students, data projectors in every classroom, The Tropical Tablelands Trade Training Centre for Agricultural Studies services the educational needs of students across the district who wish to attain accreditation in the agricultural sector.

Subjects/Electives Years 7 to 10: Core subjects – English, Geography, History, Maths, and Science. Elective subjects – Agriculture, Drama, Home Economics, HPE, Industrial Technology 1a, Industrial Technology 2a, Textiles, Art, and ICT.

Subjects/Electives Years 11 and 12: AHO, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Drama, English, English Communication, Furnishing Studies, Geography, Home Economics, Hospitality A, Hospitality B, Information & Communication Technology, Mathematics A, Mathematics B, Mathematics C, Modern History, Physical Education, Physics, Pre-Vocational Mathematics, Recreation, Science in Practice, Visual Arts.

Extracurricular activities: Team sports, including interschool representative opportunities, running club, agricultural studies and show teams, leadership training, chess, musicals and arts showcases, writers camps, hospitality and work experience.
