INNISFAIL STATE COLLEGE

Innisfail State College was opened in 2010. The college came into operation with the closure of Innisfail State High School, Innisfail Inclusive Education Centre (a state special school) and the Innisfail campus of Tropical North Queensland TAFE in 2009. The school provides education and training for special school students (pre-prep to Year 12), secondary schooling students (Year 8-12) and TAFE training for adult students.

The school’s focus is on the individual student and teachers work hard to developing positive relationships between students, caregivers and the community. Innisfail Sate College recognizes that students’ pathways after secondary schooling are varied, so it provides a quality holistic and diverse curriculum program which offers the traditional secondary education academic subjects catering for tertiary bound students as well as providing nationally-accredited, vocational subjects for students bound for the workforce. TAFE programs can be accessed on site, as can online university courses to provide integrated post-secondary options for students while still undergoing secondary schooling.

The school’s purpose, in this environment of increasing change, is to meet the learning needs of all students and provide each young person or adult with the opportunity to achieve success in their desired future outcomes.

Facilities: New administration building, library and staff centre, inclusive education centre, sports centre and performing arts building with capacity for 300 seats. The performing arts complex is also Innisfail’s community cyclone shelter. The remainder of the campus consists of refurbished TAFE buildings which have been extensively remodelled to provide modern and contemporary learning spaces. The campus has larger, more flexible classrooms, science laboratories and computer laboratories. The science laboratories were the first in Australia completed under the BER project.
