Sydney Anglicans recognised in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours

Michele Marquet News

Two members of the Sydney Anglican community with strong connections to local schools have been recognised in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours, highlighting both professional and volunteer contributions that support student learning and wellbeing.

Michele Marquet (above), Head of Cranbrook Junior School, has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for her service to primary education. Ms Marquet has led Cranbrook’s Junior School since 2017 and recently served as Acting Head of School, following earlier teaching roles at Meriden and St Peter’s Anglican Primary School. Her recognition underscores the calibre of leadership shaping learning environments across NSW independent schools.

Also honoured is Josephine Harpur, who received an OAM for more than 20 years coordinating Special Religious Education (SRE) across four local schools and over 40 years as an SRE teacher. Although her work is volunteer‑based rather than school‑employed, Ms Harpur’s long‑term commitment has supported values education and pastoral care for generations of students.

Together, these awards reflect the diverse ways Sydney Anglicans contribute to school communities — from formal educational leadership to volunteer roles that enrich students’ broader development.
