Give your child the best start possible

St Andrew’s Cathedral School

St Andrew’s Cathedral School offers a co-educational experience that shapes thoughtful, compassionate and curious young people.

Our unique Junior School is a place of joy, a calm and happy learning environment, where students eagerly engage with learning. Class sizes are deliberately small, and our experienced teachers are supported by a team of highly qualified specialised teachers, including Literacy, Numeracy, Support Education, Gifted Education, Curriculum and Pastoral Care.

What is special about St Andrew’s Cathedral School?

This school is special, not just because it is a vertical building in the heart of the city, but because of the unique network of relationships here. You walk into the building and you feel it; the beautiful welcoming culture. The School was founded with an aim to provide quality academic education to choristers in the Cathedral Choir as well as strong pastoral care, focusing on the development of the whole child. It therefore has a depth of history as a choral school, steeped in Music, which prevails today in our world class performing arts programme.

What would surprise families about St Andrew’s Cathedral School’s Junior School?

St Andrew’s Cathedral School cares for and extends every child with highly qualified, expert teachers. We don’t just diligently select the most highly qualified and well referenced teachers we can find; we also seek teachers who demonstrate the values and care for students that we prize. Having high quality teachers equates to high quality learning.

We also ensure that the needs of those who require extra support are catered for, and our extensive Gifted and Talented programme is recognised as an exemplary programme which attracts many high ability and gifted students into the School. This lifts the quality of teaching and the learning for the benefit of all our students.

When deciding on a school to suit your child

Consider the culture of the school. All schools have their own culture and values, just like every family does. You can feel the culture, the loving nature of our school when you walk through the doors, and that culture translates into care and attention in every aspect of school life.

How do you know when a child is ready to start school?

The answer is not as simple as their chronological age. Children in NSW are eligible to commence schooling between the ages of 4 and a half and 6 years. That is a huge developmental period. There will always be some students who benefit from being closer to 6 while others are ready at 5 or even at 4 and a half. If they are eligible and ready for school, the research says to send them. There are three key markers for school readiness: cognitive ability, language skills and self-regulation. Our knowledgeable Enrolments staff are happy to help parents through this process.
