GORDONVALE STATE HIGH SCHOOL


Gordonvale State High School is a co-educational secondary school located 26 minutes south of the city of Cairns and provides all students with quality facilities and teaching programs to enhance their learning. The expansive grounds and well maintained learning spaces ensure our students are afforded opportunities to access what they require to graduate as successful, confident individuals.

Year 10 students select two electives from The Arts: Art, Drama, Media, Music; Technology: Business, Information Processing, Industrial Technology and Design, Graphics and Design, Agriculture; and Languages: Japanese.

Subjects/Electives Years 11 and 12: Authority subjects – Ancient History, Biology, Business Communications Technologies, Chemistry, Drama, English, English for ESL Learners, Film, Television and New Media, Geography, Graphics, Information Processing and Technology, Japanese, Legal Studies, Mathematics A, Mathematics B, Mathematics C, Modern History, Music, Philosophy and Reason, Physical Education, Physics, Technology Studies, Visual Art.

Authority Registered subjects – Agricultural Practices, English Communication, Industrial Graphics, Industrial Skills, Aquatic Practices, Pre-Vocational Mathematics, Music Studies, Recreational Studies Social and Community Studies, Short Courses in Literacy and Numeracy, Certificate II Creative Industries (Media), Certificate II in Visual Arts.

Extracurricular activities: Active support of local charitable events, celebration of local and national commemorative occasions, participation in sporting events, public speaking and debating competitions, ‘VIVID’ cultural nights, musical, theatrical, artistic and sporting presentations.

Welfare and personal development: Chaplain, Guidance Officer.

Special features: Summit Program for academic excellence, junior secondary and senior secondary mentoring programs, leadership camps, vocational training programs, instrumental music and choral programs, agricultural studies, Learning to Learn (L2L) programs, Individual Learning Projects (ILP), Rugby League Development program and our eLearning classes.
