EMERALD STATE HIGH SCHOOL

Emerald State High School caters to students from Years 8-12, and also provides facilities for Special Education students via the Special Education Unit attached to the school campus. Emerald High offers a diverse range of subjects to cater for the varied needs of both its students and the needs of the wider community.

Emerald State High has an experienced team of staff dedicated to providing students with quality educational outcomes in line with Education Queensland’s policy framework. The school also has a large number of students undertaking Vocational Education and many students are actively involved in the community through various Work Placement, School Based Traineeships and Apprenticeships.

Subjects/Electives Years 8 to 10: The Arts, English, Health and Physical Education, Languages other than English (Japanese), Mathematics, Science, History, Studies of Society and Environment, and Technology.

In Year 8, students participate in all subject areas. In Year 9, students continue their studies in English, Maths, Science and History/Geography but have the opportunity to select two subjects from the other KLAs.

Electives Years 11 and 12: Emerald State High recognises the workforce requirements of the community and provides a comprehensive array of curriculum opportunities. Through vocational education subjects linked with structured work placement and work experience which complement the school based apprenticeship/traineeship program, students are skilled for the future.

Senior students access a compilation of Authority (OP), Authority Registered and Vocational subjects depending on their career pathway to either further Tertiary Studies at University /TAFE or the workforce. In meeting the needs of every student where possible, the school also offers access to Distance Education and Virtual Schooling opportunities.
