Deception Bay State High School is located in the heart of Deception Bay, in a residential area. The school is approximately twenty-three kilometres north of Brisbane central business district.

The school offers a wide range of opportunities for students, both within the school curriculum and through extra-curricular activities. With a school population of more than 700 students, Deception Bay State High School is characterised by outstanding achievement in the academic, cultural and sporting arenas. The school comprises a junior secondary school (years 8 and 9) and a senior secondary school (years 10, 11 and 12).

Students study the Australian Curriculum which began implementation in Queensland schools in 2012. The Australian Curriculum focuses on a greater depth of knowledge as students progress through high school. Classes are taught by specialist teachers in the most up-to-date facilities to optimise student participation and outcomes.
