CLEVELAND DISTRICT STATE HIGH SCHOOL

Cleveland District State High School is a member of the Council of International Schools (CIS). It is the only school in the Redlands with international accreditation and is one of South East Queensland’s most popular schools.

Cleveland High students are part of an established school with a caring staff devoted to the creation of a safe supportive environment where all students are valued, individual differences are respected and international students are welcomed. Students are encouraged to achieve their personal best, develop a strong work ethic and extend their talents in as many ways as possible. With extensive co-curricula opportunities, Cleveland High students are challenged to develop their academic, sporting and cultural talents.

Facilities: Ovals, state-of-the-art conference centres, computer laboratories, music practice studios, gymnasium (caters for weight management, strength and fitness maintenance), dance studio (timber sprung floor for dance and drama), commercial-grade kitchens.

Subjects/Electives Years 7 to 10: Students choose three elective subjects while continuing with the core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, History and HPE.

Subjects/Electives Years 11 and 12: Senior students in years 11 and 12 work a flexible timetable (four-day week). Students may undertake University study, TAFE programs, school-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships or private study on their options day. Students study six subjects (either Authority or Authority-registered) which are certified by the QSA.

Non-OP Subjects – Cert II in Community Recreation, Cert II in Sport (Officiating), Cert I in General Construction, Cert I in Furnishing, Industrial Technology Studies Manufacturing (Furnishings), Cert II in Hospitality (Operations), Cert III in Children’s Services, Cert II and III in Information Technology, Cert II in Music, Cert II in Creative Industries (Media), Cert II in Rural Operations, Cert II in Tourism, Cert II in Visual Arts & Contemporary Craft, Cert II in Business, English Communication, Prevocational Maths.

Sport: Specialised training groups in Long Distance Running and extra Athlete Support services for representative athletes attending the school. The school offers football (soccer), touch football, volleyball, basketball, netball, and softball.

Extracurricular activities: Swimming Carnival, Cross Country, Athletics Carnival, Cleveland High Instrumental Music Program, Chess Club, Debating, Community Language Centre.

Welfare and personal development: Special Education Unit which provides Individual Education Programs for students with a range of ascertained disabilities.

Special features: Fun and Friendship Activity Days, where students to participate in a variety of team building activities and games which allows students to get to know their class mates and teachers in an environment away from the school setting. Activities undertaken include canoeing, flying fox, laser skirmish and various team building challenges.

Scholarships are awarded in the areas of academic, sporting, or musical excellence. The scholarship program has attracted strong interest and the school receive strong applications every year across all three categories.
