Electives Years 7 to 10: All students study subjects in the Key Learning Areas of English (including Focused Literacy), Maths (including Focused Numeracy), Science, Studies of Society and Environment (SOSE), Health & Physical Education, and Languages other than English (LOTE).

In Year 9, students may choose electives within the Key Learning Areas of Health & Physical Education, Technology, and The Arts.

Welfare and personal development: Maths tutoring is provided free of charge by the maths faculty staff.  All students and parents are encouraged to make use of tutoring opportunities. 

Special features: Bowen State High School has an extensive work experience program that allows students to gain industry experience with local businesses including the Defence Force (Lavarack Barracks), Glencore Abbot Point Bulkcoal Terminal 1, White Card Construction Course, Aurizon Maintenance Depot Pring, SF4NQ Careers Expo, Nursing/Medical Tour, Ladies as Tradies, Police Academy, Wilmar Sugar – Pioneer Hill Mill, Qld North Tafe, Future Skills 4 Bowen Careers Market, RTM Engineering, Aurizon Indigenous Partnership Program.
