UPWEY HIGH SCHOOL

Established in 1937, the school enjoys an excellent relationship with the local community with the aim of further developing community involvement. The school continues to foster the virtues of respect, kindness and commonsense. It has an extended-hours program with juniors attending 8.30am to 3pm and VCE students 10.45am to 4.30pm, ensuring maximum use of facilities and resources.

Facilities: Include computer/business studies area, specialist art/craft wing, a double basketball stadium, sports oval, drama studio, well-resourced library, a gallery of students’ work and an extensive network of computers with notebooks available for student borrowing. A new science technology centre enhances all science studies.

Curriculum: Years 7 and 8 follow a compulsory program with a choice of French, Japanese or German. Years 9 and 10 are linked in a two-year Middle School program. A wide range of VCE studies is offered with VET courses in Electronics, Hospitality, Music Industry, Multimedia and part-time traineeships.

Sport: Sport has a high profile. The program includes football, basketball, swimming and athletics. The school is recognised as a specialist volleyball provider.

Extra-curricular activities: Music, drama, individual instrument tuition and lively theatrical performances. The school has junior, intermediate and senior bands and ensembles and maintains a partnership with the Ranges Music Council.

Student welfare programs: Welfare receives a high priority and the student welfare co-ordinators provide a range of support services. There is a comprehensive careers department. Updated facilities and a VCE study centre greatly enhance access to all resources.
