SARAH REDFERN HIGH

The school opened in 1981 as a comprehensive community school and
continues a tradition of providing equity of access to education for all
students. Sarah Redfern High has a learning and welfare focus encouraging
tolerance, independence and harmony. This school is renowned for its excellence
in sport, as well as creative and performing arts.

Facilities: The school has a large community library, a gymnasium
with basketball and volleyball courts and its own sporting and playing fields,
all set in well-maintained native gardens.

Electives Years 7 to 10: Visual Arts, Technics, Dance, Music,
Computing Studies, Textiles and Design, Design and Technology, Drama, Food
Technology, Italian, Sports Science.

Electives Years 11 and 12: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology,
Marine Studies, Legal Studies, Geography, Modern and Ancient History, Drama,
Textiles and Design, Engineering Studies, Industrial Technology, Italian,
Visual Arts, Music, PD/Health/PE, Dance, Information Processes and Technology,
Business Studies, Community and Family Studies. VET courses include Hospitality
and Construction, and Sports Education. NSW Board-endorsed courses include
Photography, Work Studies, Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation, and Mathematics
Applied.

Sport: Competitive — soccer, basketball, rugby league and union,
volleyball, netball, hockey, squash.

Extracurricular activities: Music/drama performances, annual art
exhibition, peer support, chess club, debating and public speaking, Lions Youth
of the Year, Rock Eisteddfod, leadership camps, Rugby in the Park, HSC
tutoring, after-school study centre, culture host school (for overseas
students).

Welfare and personal development: Respect for self and others,
mutual tolerance, responsibility for actions, and responsible attitudes and
values are the focus of the programs. There is a SRC assisting the school’s
welfare system.

Special features: Talented sports programs are run two afternoons
per week. The school participates in Rock Eisteddfod, Croc Fest, Polyfest and
other cultural and performance functions. Traineeships in Sports Management are
also offered.
