Welfare and personal development: The small size of the school is a feature of its ability to offer quality and personal education experiences. The special needs of gifted and talented students are recognised and catered for, as are those students who best learn independently. There is remediation available for students with learning difficulties.

Special features: The school offers professional computerised career counselling and a range of independent learning programs. The school received the 1999 Director General’s Award for research-based whole school programs. Students have unlimited access to major travelling art exhibitions, practising and professional artists and artisans. The students regularly visit the Lake Macquarie Regional Art Gallery, Sculpture Park and its waterfront grounds during lessons.
