HORNSBY GIRLS HIGH

Hornsby Girls’ High School is a government selective school for
girls in Years 7 to 12. The heritage buildings were originally established in
1930 and there have been recent sympathetic buildings added. The school’s
mission statement is “Excellence in girls’ education”.

Facilities: Technology, science and language laboratories, modern
library, specialist facilities for Visual Arts, Music, Drama, Design and Food
Technology, gymnasium and sports oval, netball, basketball and tennis courts.

Curriculum Years 7 and 8: Students follow mandatory BOS courses,
including languages, visual arts and music development programs.

Electives Years 9 and 10: Commerce, Dance, Design, Drama, Food
Technology, French, Geography, German, Graphics Technology, History,
Information and Software Technology, Japanese, Music, Photographic and Digital
Media, Textiles Technology, Visual Arts.

Electives Years 11 and 12: English (Advanced and both Extensions),
Ancient History, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Drama, Dance, Economics,
Food Technology, French, Geography, German, History Extension, Information
Processes and Technology, Japanese, Legal Studies, Mathematics (all courses),
Modern History, Music, Physics, PD/Health/PE, Philosophy, Photography, Society
and Culture, Software Design and Development, Textiles and Design, and Visual
Arts.

Sport: Athletics, badminton, basketball, cricket, cross-country,
dance, gymnastics, hockey, martial arts, netball, oztag, softball, soccer,
squash, swimming, table tennis, touch football. There are interschool
competitions for all these sports.

Extracurricular activities: These include debating and public
speaking, Mock Trial, dance ensembles, a choral vocal group, bands and
orchestras, drama, creative and performing arts exhibitions and performances, a student
leadership program, charity fundraising, a school musical, Tournament of Minds,
and many others.

Welfare and personal development: The school’s reputation is
enhanced by its highly supportive student welfare team, which supports
individual needs and high aspirations. It offers pro-active pastoral care
programs, an effective prefect system and SRC, work experience as well as
careers education and personal development programs. There are several established
gifted and talented programs. The school uniform is stylish and worn with
pride.
