DARAMALAN COLLEGE

Established in 1962 by the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC)
priests and brothers, the college assists and encourages students to develop
and reach their full potential in all aspects of their studies.

Facilities: Daramalan has very well maintained facilities that offer
an excellent learning environment. There is an extensive Information Centre,
which is available to students before and after school as well as during the
school day. There are well-equipped specialist rooms in all learning areas. The
large auditorium is an excellent venue for drama presentations, musicals and
art exhibitions undertaken by the college. The school is ideally situated for
use of local facilities, such as tennis courts, squash courts, a swimming pool
and ovals.

The college is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and as such
offers four vocational courses to National Certificate II in Furniture Construction,
Hospitality, Business Administration, Cisco, and Textiles, and Certificate I in
Automotive Technology.

Religious Education is compulsory.

Sport: Hockey, netball, rowing, rugby union, skiing, soccer,
swimming, basketball, equestrian, triathlon, cross-country, athletics,
Australian Rules football, tennis, cricket, softball, volleyball, touch
football, indoor soccer, water polo.

Co-curricular activities: The college also supports a wide variety
of activities of a recreational, cultural or service nature. Cultural groups
encompass such things as debating, band, choir and drama. Service groups
include the St Vincent de Paul Society and community service programs. Various
tours are also organised both within Australia and overseas.

Welfare and personal development: The provision of pastoral care to
students is an integral part of the education provided by the college.
Community building through the Daramalan family is a key value in the college,
as reflected in the quality of the relationships between staff and students.

In Years 7 to 12, students are divided into groups under the care of
a pastoral care adviser, who is usually the first point of contact regarding
absences, illnesses, studies and other matters of concern. Daramalan has access
to the services of the social work team, who provide specialised care to
students throughout the school.

Special features: The average class size is 25 with streaming in
Years 7 to 10 for Mathematics and English and Years 9 and 10 for Science. The
teacher-to-pupil ratio is one to 15. More than 85 per cent of students in Year
7 go on to complete Year 12, of whom more than 70 per cent undertake tertiary
studies. The Parents and Friends’ Association holds meetings each term. It organises activities that promote better communication between school and
parents, provides financial assistance for school projects, and helps staff,
students and parents to be united as a prayerful and social community.
