International Grammar School’s vibrant production of Legally Blonde The Musical showcased outstanding talent while giving students invaluable opportunities to develop confidence, creativity, teamwork and resilience.
For audiences, Legally Blonde The Musical delivered laughter, high-energy performances and memorable songs. For students at International Grammar School (IGS), it represented months of collaboration, creative growth and the chance to discover just how much they were capable of achieving.
Staged at Sydney’s Seymour Centre, the 2026 production brought together performers, musicians, technicians and production crew in a whole-school effort that reflected IGS’ commitment to providing rich learning experiences beyond the classroom.
Built around the company theme Think Pink! Think Power! Think Resilience!, the production encouraged students to embrace the story of Elle Woods – a character who succeeds through determination, courage and self-belief rather than conforming to others’ expectations.
Acting Principal Thom Marchbank praised the production after opening night, describing it as “wall to wall fabulous” and noting that many students surpassed even their own expectations in artistic achievement.
“These are experiences they will treasure for life,” he said.
The cast featured students from across the Middle and Senior School years, with Ivy W leading the production as Elle Woods after first appearing in the IGS musical ensemble in 2021. Alongside her, fellow students delivered polished performances supported by a talented live orchestra that included both professional musicians and IGS student instrumentalists.
Behind the scenes, students also gained practical experience across stage management, production, music, technical theatre and backstage operations, working alongside experienced industry professionals throughout the rehearsal process.
Director of Music and Producer Darren Kuilenburg said the success of the production reflected the culture the students had created together.
“Our cast, musicians and production crew have formed one of the most cohesive and supportive companies I have had the privilege of working with,” he said.
“They share a genuine love for the performing arts and a commitment to bringing something extraordinary to the stage.”
The production was supported by an experienced creative team, including director William Torney, Music Director Nathanael Primrose-Heaney, choreographers Olivia Enright and Moniku Griffith, along with designers, lighting, sound and costume specialists whose expertise gave students an authentic professional theatre experience.
For families considering IGS, productions such as Legally Blonde demonstrate the school’s philosophy of educating the whole child.
