Genazzano FCJ College, established in 1889, is an independent Catholic school owned by the Sisters, Faithful Companions of Jesus. Genazzano’s philosophy is built on a Christian belief in the dignity and worth of every individual. From its beginnings in 1889, Genazzano College’s founding Sisters, from the religious congregation Faithful Companions of Jesus, have championed the intellectual and spiritual development of young women, encouraging them to make meaningful contributions to society as leaders in both the community and at home. By providing a broad academic curriculum and an extensive co-curricular program the college offers extensive choice to students striving to maximise their strength and interests, giving them both the intellectual and spiritual development to go far.
Facilities: Housed in both historic and modern buildings, Genazzano’s facilities include an indoor swimming pool, a gymnasium, tennis and netball courts, a hockey field and a 400m running track. A new Performing Arts Centre and Music School opened in 2011. Boarders are accommodated a short distance from the college at an off-campus boarding facility in Camberwell, which offers girls the opportunity for an FCJ education at Genazzano.
Curriculum: VCE subjects include English, Literature, ESL, Languages Other Than English (French, Italian and Japanese), Mathematics (Further, Methods, Specialist), Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Geography, Accounting, Economics, Legal Studies, Business Management, Food Technology, Psychology, Art, Visual Communication, Theatre Studies, Music (performance and styles), Information Processing and Management, Physical Education, Health and Human Development and university enhancement opportunities.
Sport: An extensive sporting program is on offer including tennis, softball, volleyball, netball, hockey, water polo, basketball, cross-country, athletics, swimming and skiing. An exceptional rowing program is available which achieves outstanding results each year. Aerobics, fun running, aqua aerobics and badminton are among leisure options.
Extra-curricular activities: These include leadership training and extension programs, debating, choir, orchestras (string, junior and symphony), big band, flute choir, language clubs and drama.
Student welfare programs: Pastoral care and community-service programs encourage responsible citizenship and action for peace and justice. Genazzano teachers and co-ordinators visit boarders out of school times and keep in contact with them regarding their studies.
