EMANUEL SCHOOL

The school was established in 1983 and offers an individualised
education within a Jewish environment to students from preschool to Year 12. A
small number of non-Jewish students also attend Emanuel.

Facilities: On its heritage campus, Emanuel School has a design and
technology room, music and practice rooms, art rooms (including ceramics
facilities), a gymnasium, a specialist learning centre and a refurbished
library. A newly constructed primary library and four modern science
laboratories will be operational from Term 1 2011. Students from Year 6 onwards
have laptops.

Electives Years 7 to 10: Commerce, Drama, French, Hebrew, Visual
Arts, Music, Computing Studies, Extension History.

Electives Years 11 and 12: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, all
Mathematics courses, Economics, Legal Studies, Business Studies, Ancient
History, Modern History, Geography, Music, French, Visual Arts, PD/Health/PE,
Studies of Religion, Hebrew, Software Design and Development. VET and JSST
courses are also offered. 

Sport: A wide range of activities is offered in the sports program,
while inter-school and inter-house fixtures are arranged throughout the year.
The school is a member of HICES and CDSSA, which play inter-school competition
sport. The school offers basketball, soccer, rugby, touch rugby, gymnastics,
netball, aerobics, cross-country, volleyball, athletics, swimming, tennis,
cricket, softball, and T-ball.

Extracurricular activities: Debating, chess, drama, Mock Trial,
school camp program, music groups, enrichment programs, Duke of Edinburgh’s
Award Scheme.

Welfare and personal development: Emanuel School provides a welfare
program within a house system for all Years 7 to 12 students. Within this
system, a small group of students is affiliated with a tutor who oversees the
welfare of those students each day. Students are selected from each house for
various leadership positions such as house captain and SRC members. Personal
development for Years 7 to 12 students is taught within both the PDH lessons
and the Jewish Studies lessons. Year 10 students have the opportunity, through
the work experience program, to sample their chosen career path. All students
have access to counselling. Programs for younger students include a social
skills program, membership of the SRC (from Year 2), and peer support.

Special features: A differentiated curriculum is in place at Emanuel
to provide every student with challenging and stimulating classroom
experiences. Students at either end of the academic spectrum are also able to
utilise the specialist learning centre, a facility that houses a variety of
extension, remedial and individual learning programs designed specifically for
individual students. Provisions for gifted and talented students include
acceleration in individual subjects and by year. There are also mentor
programs, distinction courses and an Opportunity Class for Year 5 entry.
Flexible pathways to tertiary courses and accumulated HSC are available.
