Part of Tintern Schools, Southwood Boys’ Grammar offers high-quality, single-sex education for boys in Prep to Year 9. Imagine coming to school every day to towering eucalypts and Australian native plants, the sounds of wattle birds and magpies, open space, quiet, and fresh air. Southwood Boys’ Grammar provides a rich and engaging curriculum that builds a lifelong love of learning and personal, social and emotional growth for each student. Underpinning the exceptional curriculum is an outstanding pastoral care program that ensures each boy develops important life skills such as teamwork, compassion, global citizenship, co-operation, problem-solving, optimism and work ethic. From Years 10 to 12 boys have access to three distinct pathways: VCE, VCE/VET (Vocational Education Training) and the International Baccalaureate at the dedicated Senior College for boys and girls. Located at the Tintern Campus, the Senior College ensures that students benefit from a mixed learning environment and social experiences that will equip them for tertiary learning and their life beyond school. From 2014, Southwood Boys’ Grammar will be relocated to the Tintern campus.

Southwood’s grounds, buildings and facilities are ideally suited to accommodate the learning needs of active, energetic boys. The site is surrounded by sporting complexes including football and cricket ovals, a soccer field, athletics track, basketball stadium, aquatic centre and golf course. The school offers excellent facilities for teaching and learning and up-to-date technological resources. Southwood students also share in the range of facilities at the Tintern Campus, including regular visits to Tinternwood Farm, where they learn about sustainability.

Curriculum: Educational programs are tailored specifically to meet the needs of boys, with an emphasis on ensuring that each boy achieves a high level of proficiency in core skills. The use of technologies is integrated throughout a comprehensive curriculum at all levels. Subject content and programs are constantly reviewed to challenge students and reflect current educational philosophies. Specific information on curriculum is available from the admissions manager.

Extra-curricular activities: Southwood offers an extensive and well-balanced range of sporting and co-curricular activities including football, cricket, swimming, athletics, gymnastics, basketball, soccer, golf, orchestras, bands, choirs, Young Farmers, school musicals, drama, debating, special interest and science groups. Many co-curricular programs are enhanced through participation in year-level events with girls from Tintern.

Student welfare programs
: Pastoral care is provided by form teachers, year-level co-ordinators, school counsellor and school chaplain, working in partnership with parents to provide appropriate and effective support to each student. Individual counselling and career guidance responds to personal development needs and assists with subject choices that will best realise each boy’s potential.
