KENMORE STATE HIGH SCHOOL

Kenmore State High School is a highly regarded school in the western suburbs of Brisbane. Founded in 1972, the school has grown to an enrolment of 1650 in 2014. The school is located in a very attractive setting on the delightful Moggill Creek. The local community is very supportive of the school and encourages its young people to pursue education as a priority.

Subjects/Electives Years 7 to 10: The Junior Secondary school consists of a core program for Year 7, 8 and 9 students. By the end of Year 9, students have studied a balanced program covering all the key areas of the curriculum and they have had the opportunity to specialise in up to three different areas of interest.

The middle school curriculum is characterised by a rigorous and well linked program that ensures students study the basics, apply this knowledge to real situations and are challenged to integrate their learnings across disciplines in complex activities.

Subjects/Electives Years 11 and 12: In Years 11 and 12 students continue to study six subjects, selected from a wide range of offerings which include Authority subjects, Authority registered subjects as well as vocational certificate courses, traineeships and apprenticeships offered both through the school and external training providers. The study of either English or English Communication is compulsory and a mathematics subject is highly recommended.

Sport: Gymnastics (strength and balance), Gymnastics (tumbling), Netball, Ultimate Disc, Softball, Touch, Table Tennis, Basketball, Volleyball, Continuous Cricket, Circuits, Badminton, Rugby, Hockey.

Extracurricular activities: Cross country practice, the cross country carnival and some pre-carnival athletics events. Kenmore State High School offers numerous opportunities for students to participate in its highly successful Instrumental Music and Vocal programs.

Welfare and personal development: Chaplain, guidance, nurse, teaching and learning support, year coordinators.

Special features: Kenmore State High School offers a range of Signature Programs for students including German Immersion, ICE Laptop Program, Music Extension, Zenith.
