Trinity Grammar’s Serenata wins the City of Sydney Eisteddfod

The NSW Trinity Grammar Middle School String Orchestra, Serenata, has stunned a number of School Senior Strings Orchestras, including Pymble Ladies College Senior Strings and Knox Grammar Senior Strings by sensationally winning the City of Sydney Eisteddfod School String Orchestra under 19 Class.

The adjudicator, Mr Brian Buggy, awarded the boys 96 out of 100 praising the boys on their outstanding performance, commenting on the “Delicious opening; great presto tempo, with stylish attention; the recap every bit as polished as the first playing;” and a; “lovely polished finish.”

Trinity’s Head of Strings, Kate Morgan, directed Serenata’s varied program beginning with the 3rd movement “O Waly Waly” from the John Rutter Suite for Strings, then contrasted this with the 3rd movement, Presto of the Mozart Divertimento in D and finished off with their rendition of the 1st Movement of the Elgar Serenade for Strings.

Phil Pratt, Director of Music at Trinity is thrilled at Serenata’s outcome at the eisteddfod, “This result is a wonderful affirmation of the great work happening in the String Department under the leadership of Head of Strings Kate Morgan. What a wonderful achievement from this group of young men representing Trinity in the most demanding Eisteddfod in Australia.”
